Extra Curricular Programs

Given the precarious situation of the social environment where the CENDI are located, our institution believes in the importance of creating programs that facilitate a social transformation that can truly improve the quality of life in the communities we are part of.

In order to reinforce the results of the educational process, in addition to the co-curricular programs and the development aid programs, we have the Extra Curricular Programs that take into account the problems and necessities of the community and create transforming measures for these situations. The Extra Curricular Programs are:

School for Parents

This is mandatory for all parents and it’s imparted in several ways:

  • Monthly Meeting. CENDI’s Technical Council gives a training session with important information for all parents.
  • Special Process Meetings. These processes are: adaptation, ablactation, toilet training, therapy and early stimulation.
  • Health and Nutrition Workshops. We give the parents information and training in healthy habits, nutrition, CPR for children, etc.
  • Personal Consulting Sessions.

Non-formal Education Program “Aprendiendo Juntos”

This program of training, care and early education is directed to the families of the communities in the vicinity of the CENDI. Teachers, teaching assistants, psychologists, physicians, nutrition specialists and social workers that are part of the staff at CENDI, give all the lessons and workshops of this program.

This program promotes the equality of opportunities for children by permitting that all the children from 0 to 6 years old of these disadvantaged communities have equal access to a complete care and early stimulation techniques.

Prenatal Program

The focus of these programs is the care of pregnant women of impoverished areas from 4 months of gestation. There are 5 principal axes in this program:

1. Prenatal health

2. Nutrition

3. Psycho-prophylaxis

4. Intrauterine stimulation

5. Training

The objective of this practice is that the women have a full and happy pregnancy, that she values and accepts her condition, that she is healthy physically and emotionally, that she prepares for a normal birth and that she is qualified to take care of her baby when it arrives.

This program is of special importance taking into account the fact that 27% of the attended women are between 13 and 18 years of age and 63% of them don’t have access to health care services.

Nutritional Program “Rescatando Inteligencias”

This program is directed to the 10 thousand children under 6 years of age that receive a free of charge monthly portion of nutritional supplements rich in neuronutrients, to improve their daily diet and to procure a better formation of the brain. This measure follows the fact that a good diet also helps to improve the general health, intellectual capacity, and emotional state of the child.

Other extra curricular activities that take place in addition to the programs mentioned above are:

  • Medical Care Brigades organized with the support of public health care institutions (Health Secretary of the State, I.M.S.S., I.S.S.S.T.E., etc).
  • Women’s Health Program. We have annual medical check ups at CENDI for the general public. With this program women have access to health tests and the opportunity of getting an early detection of severe afflictions such as cervical and breast cancer, as well as other grave diseases such as hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes, etc. We also help them to get treatment when is needed.
  • Rescue our traditions. We have massive community acts such as parades, sporting events, posadas (traditional Mexican Christmas parties), dia de muertos festivities, all supporting and promoting the many traditions in our culture.
  • Senior Club. We organize recreational and educational activities for the seniors in our community such as crafts, dance, horticulture, storytelling, etc.
  • Promotion of ecological lifestyle. We have reforestation, cleaning, recycling, proper disposal of batteries and other activities for the children, parents and the general public.
  • Combat against the addictions and family violence.

These programs create a full circle of educational actions in our community.
